Caterpillar Club Wednesdays - Family Literacy Fun!

This FREE program is a FUN, educational, multi-sensory approach to early childhood literacy, designed for families with children ages 0-5, accompanied by a caregiver, but ALL ages are welcome! Each gathering takes place in our Community Center on Wednesday mornings, 10:30am - 12:00pm.

We will come together in a safe, welcoming space each week to dance, play, sing, rhyme, craft, explore science, practice letters, and enjoy stories read aloud. Above all, Caterpillar Club is an opportunity for kids and their families to have FUN together while learning the basic skills of early childhood literacy. Exploring the sounds, rhythms and the stories of language is a rewarding experience for everyone!

Here at Caterpillar Club we want everyone to know that they belong as soon as they walk through the door! We are excited to be a small part of your child’s early years of discovery. After the program, you are very welcome to gather in the orchard and enjoy connecting with other local families w/ children under the apple trees. Please join us!

FREE Online Classes for Seniors!

The New Mexico State Library has partnered with GetSetUp to provide virtual digital literacy classes for older adult patrons taught by peers - ask questions, make new friends, learn new things, and have fun!

These classes include courses about general computer knowledge, browser differences, cyber safety, and the ins and outs of different software (such as Microsoft and Goggle) as well as instructional videos about product lines, such as Apple.

And it's not only digital literacy! You will also find classes on health, exercise, mental wellness, cooking, gardening and more!

Horno Building Workshop

Quality of Life at the End of Life: Improving the Odds

For many of us, the target as we age into our later years is to maintain or even improve our quality of life and be able to have some control towards the end. After all, we are mortal beings; no one gets out alive!  There are no right and no wrong answers…we have choices to make, if we care to. 

This talk will provide an overview of end-of-life issues and options and review what it takes to have the kind of death we want. Although there are no guarantees, figuring out our values and discussing them with our loved ones and health care providers, understanding our rights and how to exercise them, being familiar with the components of the care system, and being knowledgeable about the various options at the end of life, significantly increases the chances of things going our way. There will be resource table and plenty of time for Q&A and frank discussion about these important and challenging issues.

About Barak Wolff, MPH

Barak is a mostly retired, long-time public health leader in NM working in Rural Health, EMS and Trauma Systems, and as the Director of the Public Health Division in the NM Department of Health. Upon retirement from state government Barak served as an analyst for the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee for twenty years,  under the leadership of Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino since 2013. For the last thirteen years, Barak has been deeply involved with end-of-life issues and is a founding Board Member of End of Life Options New Mexico,  a statewide non-profit, created to help implement the Elizabeth Whitefield End-of-Life Options Act in 2021.   He is grateful for the opportunity to provide education, help improve our care systems and support New Mexicans in their end-of-life decisions, now including medical aid in dying.
